In the Operating Room: Brain Tumor Surgery

Removing a tumor in the human brain is a challenging operation. In this video, you can see directly into the brain and see how a tumor is removed. Dr Chistopher Duma, MD, FACS, ¬†from Newport Beach, CA, provides us with a live brain surgery video segment where he is removing a brain tumor. He incises into the dense covering over the brain (called the dura) and underneath is a superficial brain tumor which he ¬†removes with delicate instruments and lasers (remember… the images you are seeing are magnified). You’ll see that the brain actually pulsating due to the arteries within the brain expanding and contracting. At the end, you’ll see the tumor being removed, the dura covering sewn up, and the skull bone put back in place. An incredible and lifesaving effort!
